Industrial doors in London

London's industrial land is tight, busy and expensive, so doors work hard: multi-let estates, last-mile depots running around the clock, and older units being refitted for new tenants. The specialist you are introduced to will have worked on estates like yours and knows how to programme work around deliveries.

Where the work is

Park Royal and West London
One of the capital's largest industrial areas, with food production, film and logistics side by side. Expect food-safe high-speed doors between zones and a lot of shutter replacement on older units.
Heathrow corridor
Air freight sheds and distribution units around the airport run long hours. Loading bays with levellers, shelters and fast internal doors are common, and servicing is often booked at night.
Lea Valley and North London
Edmonton, Enfield and Tottenham estates mix trade counters, wholesale and light industry. Security-rated shutters and wicket doors feature heavily.
Thames Gateway and East London
Dagenham, Barking, Thurrock and the Royal Docks host large newer sheds and last-mile depots, where insulated sectional dock doors and vehicle restraints are the norm.

Planning and consents

Planning sits with the 32 boroughs and the City of London, under the London Plan, which protects much of the remaining industrial land. Like-for-like door replacement rarely needs permission; new openings, changes to a frontage and anything in a conservation area or on a shopfront should be checked with the borough first. New doors on new or extended buildings still have to meet the energy rules in Approved Document L.

Weather, access and working hours

Wind exposure is lower than in the north and on the coast, but tall, wide doors on open riverside sites still need a proper wind class. The bigger London factors are access and hours: parking suspensions, restricted delivery times on some estates and the need to keep a depot running mean many installs and services happen early, late or at weekends, which adds to the cost.
