What moves the price

Size and weight. Every figure here scales with the area of the opening. A 6 x 5.5 m door has nearly three times the curtain of a 3 x 3.5 m one, and needs a heavier barrel, bigger springs and a three-phase operator.

Insulation and wind. Insulated laths add roughly half again to the curtain on a shutter. Exposed sites need a higher wind class, which means stronger guides, wind locks or thicker panels.

How the door is used. A door cycling a few times a day can use a standard operator; a busy dock needs longer-life springs and a heavier-duty drive, and a door used hundreds of times a day is better as a high-speed door.

The site. Steelwork to fix to, scaffolding or platforms for high openings, a new three-phase supply, removing old doors, and working nights or weekends around a live operation all add cost.

How prices were built. Roller shutter and repair figures come from UK installer and trade price guides published between June and September 2026; sectional door figures from a manufacturer's March 2026 guide and a January 2026 UK logistics article; fire shutters from a 2026 installer article and a January 2024 supply list; dock levellers from a UK dock specialist. High-speed doors and some loading bay items are rarely priced publicly in the UK, so those ranges also draw on a 2026 North American planning guide converted at about 0.75 and are flagged as budget figures. The calculator scales each type by opening area.

Industrial door cost questions

How much does an industrial door cost?

For a typical 3 x 3.5 m loading dock opening, before VAT: an insulated roller shutter £2,900 to £5,400, an insulated sectional door £2,400 to £4,100, a fabric high-speed door £7,600 to £15,300. Larger drive-in doors cost more; see the tables below.

How much does a roller shutter cost?

An electric single-skin industrial shutter for a 3 x 3 m opening typically costs £2,300 to £3,800 fitted, and an insulated 4 x 5 m drive-in shutter £4,300 to £8,200, before VAT. Small shop and garage shutters cost less.

What makes industrial doors expensive?

Size first, then insulation, the operator (three-phase drives on large doors), wind load class, security rating, special finishes and safety devices. Site factors add more: steelwork to fix to, access equipment, new power supplies and working around a live site.

Do the prices include VAT?

No. Prices on this site exclude VAT unless stated. Industrial door work is normally standard-rated.

Is it cheaper to buy several doors at once?

Usually, per door. Survey, delivery, access equipment and set-up are shared, and a run of identical dock doors is quicker to make and fit. Ask for the price per door and for the whole package.

How accurate is the calculator?

It is a budgeting tool built from published price ranges, scaled by opening area. It is good enough to decide what to ask for and to check a quote is in the right area. A specialist's survey and written price is what counts.
